Master lensman
Paulo Macedo (Street League photographer), volunteered his time and expertise with Next Up to teach an intro workshop of skateboarding photography to 19 participants.
Paulo went beyond pulling the “trigger” on the camera, and explained that while good photo’s capture the moment, great photo’s provide a narrative along with the emotion of the moment – a context that students learned could be applied to all photography. He then showed the participants several of his photos and explained the thought process behind of each of them.
After familiarizing the participants with the various camera functions and settings – it was time to head outside for some action shots with professional skater,
Sewa Kroetkov. Each participant had 5 attempts to get “the shot.” Most participants’ initial shots were out of focus and out of frame, but Paulo provided some constructive feedback and guidance. Everyone managed to capture a great photo by the 5th and final attempt – the participants, along with Paulo, were amazed to see how well their photo’s turned out!
Thanks Paulo and Sewa, we hope to see you guys soon for another photography workshop!
