On Nov. 27th, we had a special guest joining Next Up for an exciting leadership presentation to our kids that encompassed a variety of social issues. Our guest speaker was Professor Keith Krallman from our own Orange Coast College. Our students did not know that Professor Keith Krallman is also a full-time law enforcement professional here in southern California. He started off his presentation wearing a sports coat but changed into his police uniform in the middle of presentation, which took the kids by surprise. Mr. Krallman promoted character and how to make good decisions in life. Mr. Krallman engaged our kids about making positive, healthy choices and how not to make bad assumptions in life. Mr. Krallman then transitioned his presentation into the prevention of drug abuse, alcohol consumption, and tobacco use. He spoke about gang culture and how drugs and crime play into a gang’s culture. We ended the presentation with an amazing performance by a police canine officer talking about the role of police service dog. We actually got to see how cute, yet so powerful a police canine can be. The boys were able to pet the police dog and see him in action. Most exciting we were able to take a photo with the police dog standing on one of our boards. We also learned the police canine officer is a big fan of skateboarding, since he did it growing up!
