Practice makes perfect… On June 6th, Andres Alfonso was back at Next Up for Graphic Design Workshop number 3, the most successful yet. A group of 9 students was asked to design an advertisement as if they were releasing their very own pro model shoes. In continuation with the recent DIY Vans and skate photography/journalism workshops, students used photographs of themselves and their freshly painted Vans slip-ons to create a mock-up ad with old skate mag cut-outs, glue sticks, and sharpies. Andres was stoked on their imaginative designs and how engaged the group was in the activity and with each other! He taped the finished pieces to the wall and asked everyone to take turns discussing their concepts, creative process, and opinions, giving them a chance to fully connect to each other’s artwork. Two winners were chosen based of a tally of private votes and went home with special prizes from the product room. Success! We are thrilled to find people like Andres who donate their time to offer our kids their skills and knowledge and fascinated to see how strongly our kids react to the opportunities in front of them. Next Up is alive with a solid group of good kids who skate, have fun, and learn together in a rad environment with solid mentoring. There’s no place we’d rather be!
