Los Angeles, CA – February 9, 2019
To kick off the 2019 activities, Next Up participants made the journey from Anaheim to Los Angeles in hopes of skating Stoner Park. Unfortunately, it turned out the park had been closed due to weather conditions. The crew then decided to check out the world-renowned Santa Monica Courthouse spot (renovated by Nike SB back in 2014). Despite most of the ground still being wet, the group skated around for a bit, only for it to begin raining again. Persistence and resourcefulness are key in skateboarding – and this trip was no different. Vina—our founder— made a few phone calls to some locals in the know, and was tipped off that the new El Sereno skatepark (4721 Klamath St, Los Angeles, CA) was nice and dry. Soon enough, the van was packed with eager participants en route to what was sure to be a great session. Upon arrival at El Sereno, the group was surprised to see 2017 SOTY (Skater of the Year) Jamie Foy along with well known health advocate and Deathwish skater Neen Williams were already skating the park. It was a fun day of skateboarding, and we hope to be back soon!
