Dream Chasers with Oscar Flores

Next Up mission is simple: through skateboarding and arts we encourage higher education, promote youth leadership, and career advancement—mostly within the skateboard industry.

This time we thought it would be cool to find skateboarders who don’t work in the skate industry.

Oscar Flores, a skateboarder who runs his own gym, West Coast Athletics OC, in partnership with some of his friends,was our guest speaker. Our idea, since we introduce our participantsto careersprimarilyin the action-sports industry, was to encouragethem to be open to different career opportunities and still skate as much as possible. It was inspiring to listen to Oscar’s life story and learnhow he quit his 9 to 5pm job at 24 Hour Fitness to start his own gym andstill keep skating pretty much every day.
