By far, the most engaging of our Success Lab workshops are those that involve ART. Joshua Madrid kicked off our very first art workshop with an awesome activity: mixed media on canvas. Next Up participants learned a dynamic technique that combined collage and alcohol drip painting. First, students colored their canvases with a design of their choice using sharpies and Copic markers. They were encouraged to be free and not worry about making it perfect, because the next step involved dropping Isopropyl rubbing alcohol on the canvases with a liquid dropper. This process expands and blends the colors, creating a kind of tie-dye effect. Very fun! Next, students scanned through skateboarding magazines to find and cut out their favorite photographs. We glued the images onto the canvases with the colorful backgrounds. The finished results were fantastic, and each student had a completely hand-crafted work of art custom to their artistic style. Our kids were SO excited and grateful for the experience. Thank you, Joshua, for your time, encouragement, and knowledge.
