It was frenzy on Friday, August 18th, as we brought the Success Lab outside and broke out the spray paint. Our good friend and supporter, Josh Madrid, led Next Up participants in the final phase of the Create-A-Skate workshop, in which students got to learn the science behind a building a skateboard deck. Josh demonstrated a few techniques for layering stencils and applying color with the spray paint, and then they were off! The tink-tink sounds of shaking spray cans and clouds of spray paint wafted in the air as each unique artistic concept came to life. Pretty soon, 13 blank decks were transformed from bare wood into colorful works of art. To this day, it remains true: Art is the most beloved of all Next Up workshops. Thank you, Josh, for donating your time and supplies to the Next Up crew. The skateboards now hang cheerfully on the walls of the Success Lab, reminding us each day of our infinite potential. Cheers to every person who gives love to Next Up! We wouldn’t be here without you.
